RFID student tracking is controversial in some circles - but perhaps it shouldn't be. RFID-based tracking systems provide numerous benefits, from keeping students safe on campus, to properly collecting student ridership data on your buses. These systems are relatively inexpensive to implement, and can pay off for years to come.
If you aren't certain whether RFID tracking could help in your school, our new free white paper 10 Questions to Ask When Considering a Student Bus Tracking System has everything you need to know!
What Is RFID Tracking?
RFID tags are tiny low-power radio transmitters, typically smaller than a grain of rice. These broadcast a very short-range signal, only able to be received within 10 meters or so. This signal is also very basic, usually just an identification code. RFID is used for tracking all types of things in the real world, such as following packages in transit - or keeping track of a student population!
By embedding RFID tags in your students' ID badges and setting up some sensors around school, and in your buses, you'll be able to keep tabs on where your students are whenever they're in your care.
How Would RFID Tracking Improve Your School?
Our new white paper goes into depth on how an investment for RFID will pay off in big ways. It covers topics such as:
- All the many ways RFID tracking can streamline school processes, such as taking attendance and tracking student ridership on buses.
- Setting up alerts if a student wanders into an area they shouldn't be, like the chem lab's storage cabinet or nurse's office.
- The low costs and potentially high returns on investment via improved reporting.
- The technological requirements needed for embracing RFID technology - which are quite low.
- What to say to parents who may be concerned about the system or its safety implications. RFID is completely safe and secure!
- Tips and suggestions for a successful rollout in your district, from practical issues, to getting your staff onboard with the project.
If your district is looking for a better way to track student activity, compile data, and file more-accurate state reports, RFID tracking is a great option. Orbit Software can help you make it happen! We have over 25 years' experience helping districts embrace new technology.
