Maps are Easily Updated

Do you want to add a new development or road? With BusBoss^TM, you don’t have to wait a year or more for map updates. You can easily add roads yourself in a matter of seconds. All map functions and tools are available on a toolbar whenever the map is displayed. All map editing, route creation and modification, and redistricting functions are performed on the same map. You don’t need to change screens.

Detailed Area Maps

Your installation of BusBoss^TM will include incredibly detailed maps of your school district, including any areas outside your district where your buses may need to travel. The map data comes with pre-loaded street names and house number ranges along street segments. You do not need to spend weeks entering house number data. Additional map layers are also provided including rivers, lakes, parks, railroads, etc.

BusBoss^TM can use district provided maps or we can provide Tiger, TeleAtlas or NavTeq maps to use in BusBoss^TM. A BusBoss Map Viewer is available for download from the Orbit Software, Inc. website to compare the Tiger and TeleAtlas county wide street map data.

Maps can be printed with routes and driving directions, street names, student house locations, bus stop locations and other landmarks or map symbols displayed.

Geocoding Student Data

BusBoss^TM has the ability to locate student addresses and bus stops on the map. This can be done automatically or manually. You can manually move any automatically located addresses or bus stops. Any manual override has priority over automatic functions in BusBoss^TM.

The address descriptions in BusBoss^TM are formatted with the house number, prefix, street name, street type, suffix, city, state, and zip code in separate fields. BusBoss^TM distinguishes between two identical addresses (the same number and same named street in two different parts of the district) by the zip code assigned. The system accurately locates these student addresses automatically. BusBoss^TM has easy tools for manually locating a student address that could not be automatically located.

BusBoss^TM And Rural Route Addresses

Transportation software programs using commercially available maps containing residential rural routes are often unable to cope with the challenges associated with rural addresses. BusBoss^TM, however, gives an organization the tools necessary to accomplish its required routing and scheduling tasks, even when student households continue to rely on rural route addresses.

Midd-West School District, a BusBoss^TM user with rural addresses, is able to easily use BusBoss^TM to create and maintain bus routes.

Routing in BusBoss^TM functions the same whether school districts locate student addresses or not. Therefore, BusBoss^TM users do not have to locate student addresses in order to obtain full routing functionality. House locations are needed only if an "automatic assignment" of students to bus stops is desired or redistricting is required.

Should the transportation service wish, it can easily assign students to bus stops, manually, without having home addresses located. If you prefer having houses located on the map, this can be accomplished, manually, regardless of student address descriptions. BusBoss^TM makes manually locating student addresses a quick and easy task.

Users experience the full range of BusBoss^TM routing and scheduling functions in spite of having rural addresses. Full BusBoss^TM automation is available to users that include the following functions:
